I've just read the post you linking to before coming to this post...anyway found it interesting that is was shut down by Rubin. Prestashop is coming up and we certainly switched to Presto due to speed purely and I don't think Magento has coupon feature on the Community Platform. They are making money on the paid platform, which is fair enough. Magento is now owned by eBay (even though they have been investing into it for a while) so it will be interesting to see which direction they will be going aside from the obvious focus on multi channel sales and eBay integration I guess. I love PrestaShop and being an SEO myself, site speed is just simply a huge factor for me...

both are good OSS ecommerce softwares and have their own pros & Cons. It depends on your convenience which one to use. Although prestashop is easy to use, but customization a bit complex. On the other hand Magento gives you flexibility but you should have some coding skills.

Be patient - I think in time you'll see developers come out of the woodwork to create templates.

The problem with Prestashop is the lack of templates! it's really annoying to see 99% of the stores looking alike!
for people who doesnt know how to code in CSS, is a big issue.

On the other side, Prestashop is really fast and very easy to use.

tested Magento and prestashop.
Prestashop is way much faster on a shared hosting environment.
Besides that is much easier for a noob to start with and imo the layout is easyer to design/modify
Magento is impressive, but Prestashop has the same functions (almost) and is faster and easier...

I have to agree with Jafar

Prestashop is great for these three things its easy to setup, is fast to run and the end product looks great with simple css and plugin modules.

I am very impressed also with its backend.

Magento just is too slow even on our VPS. So we are testing prestashop.

Im so late on this post, but here it goes anyway.
I read a post on the Magento which sounds like Magneto (Xmen) btw, that got closed because someone was making a very good point about Prestashop vs Magento. Some people even remarked that Presta shop was copying Magento, yet Prestashop is smaller in size and runs faster...so how can something be copied and become smaller...seems like someone tried copying and ended up making it bigger :X and slower if I dare say. I know the Magento fans dont want to admit their inadequacies, but if one thing matters most on the Internet, it's not size...but Speed.
